1. I want to teach my traditional (face-to-face ) course in a hybrid format. What do I need to do?
There are 4 major steps:
Step 1. Complete an online teaching certification course (OLAC 1, ETOM, or a similar course).
Step 2. Submit your course proposal and the Syllabus for the new hybrid (online) course to OLAC (4-6 months before the first day of class). The proposal is located under the Course Development tab.
Step 3. You are encouraged to work with the Academic Coordinator of Distance Learning to develop the course (at least 4 months before the first day of class). The course should meet the Online Teaching Standards (located under the Quality Assurance tab).
Step 4. Contact the OLAC chair and submit the course (fully developed) for review (1 month before the first day of class).
2. What if I have been certified to teach online by a different institution?
Complete the OLAC Course Waiver form and send it to the OLAC chair. The form is located on under the Forms tab.
3. What is the difference between the "OLAC review" and the "peer review"?
OLAC review is for the newly approved online and hybrid courses (see Question 1). A month before the first day of class, OLAC will review the course (fully developed)based on the criteria that address the course design (Standards 1, 2.A, 2.C, 2.D, 2.E, 3.A, 3.B, 4, and 5) in the Online Teaching Standards.
The peer review is for all the other online and hybrid courses after the end of the term in which they were taught using all the standards (design and delivery) in the Online Teaching Standards and the Peer Review Guide. More information about the peer review is provided on the Quality Assurance page.
4. What is the difference between the OLAC 1 course (Online Teaching Certification course) and the OLAC 2 course (Teaching with Technology) ?
5. I want to update my hybrid/online course. What do I need to do?

4. What is the difference between the OLAC 1 course (Online Teaching Certification course) and the OLAC 2 course (Teaching with Technology) ?
- They have different learning objectives.
- OLAC 1 course is not about a particular LMS or technology and is not self-paced. Course completion, including reading, online discussions and assignments, will take a minimum of 10 hours per week. Building on a solid understanding of the online pedagogy and the Online Teaching Standards, participants will actively create an effectively designed online learning module/unit. - In OLAC 2 course, participants explore and reflect on innovative and creative uses of online instructional technologies through a set of hands-on, self-paced, discovery activities. Here is a quick overview of this course. While this overview is showing the layout of the course in eCollege, the content of the course is similar in Canvas.
